Siavonga Police Station Needs Juvenile Cell |

At the moment the Siavonga Police Station is facing a unique and unfortunate situation in regards to their detention system for criminal suspects. Currently the holding cell (just one) is about 3.5meter square, and you can find up to 20 offenders in there at any one time. Worst than this is that juvenile offenders are kept in there with the adult men, a station that is far from ideal. Women can obviously not be kept in here too, so they are kept under a nearby mango tree, guarded by an armed police officer. Steps are being taken to address the serious need for more holding cells, that will allow juveniles and women to be detained safely and under humane conditions. So far the community has managed to come up with a two roomed building finished up to roof height, but now the money is finished. Still needed is the roof and sceptic tank before these needs can be addressed. If you are able to help us help the local community in this way, please make a dontion here and specify that your gift should go to Juvenile Cell. |

Mr. Straightford Hakakaye (centre) is one of the registered trustees of Mukuyu Outreach. He has two sons who has been showing academic promise from early ages, and he has sent them to a good school in Lusitu. He is struggeling to support them and to pay their schooling and we have agreed to try and help them by rasing funds for their school fees and then enrolling them into a work program at Mukuyu Outreach. You can help to contribute to education in our part of Africa by donating towards this expense. |

A big thanks to Kevin from Chit-Chat Restaurant in Lusaka, Karen and Peter from Eagles Rest in Siavonga, all the sponsors who donated lovely prizes and all the participants in our Quiz Night held on the 11th of April. This event raised a total of K3,500,000 that will go towards finishing the last touches on the orphan home and helping out the kids in our area while we wait to formally open the building. |

We were very happy to have Bernard and Hilda Swart visit Mukuyu for a few days. They are two honeymooners from Stellenbosch, South Africa, that have set aside a year to travel from their home to Uganda and back. We want to thank them for the help at Mukuyu and we want to wish them all the best for the rest of the trip... all 33,000kms remaining. Have a look at their blog here... (Afrikaans) |
